Our Elders and Deacons

Reverend Tory Pruner

Reverend Tory Pruner joined us at Cornerstone in December 2015.  Prior to this, she served as the Associate Pastor of The Presbyterian Church of Toms River for 27 years. Her responsibilities included work with the finance, property, outreach, stewardship, Christian education commissions.  She led the children’s ministry and  worked with the youth and adult ministries. Tory went on permanent disability in 2014 because of Lupus and ongoing back issues. During that time she came to Cornerstone as one of our guest preachers. Then she expressed interest in possibly serving as our pastor. Tory shared with our pastor search committee, “Now that I am on disability, I have discovered a stirring within my heart that the Lord is not done with me yet. I believe God has a place where I may faithfully serve him despite my limitations. My ability to only work part-time, my passion to see the church of Jesus Christ grow, and the Spirit’s working on my heart all point to God’s call in my life to pastor to the small church.”  We believe that Tory is a perfect fit for this  stage in the life of  our congregation.

Administrative Assistant: Elizabeth Hughes

Elizabeth Hughes has served as our Administrative Assistant since 2011.  She has been a member of Cornerstone, though, since it’s very beginning.  Elizabeth is much more than an Administrative Assistant as she supports all areas of ministry at Cornerstone with her three children, devoted husband, and her heart for Christ.  After working as an engineer in the defense industry for more than 10 years, Elizabeth took a break to stay at home and raise her children.  As our Administrative Assistant, she oversees all communication about our church with organizing and publishing our weekly bulletins, and weekly email updates as well as our monthly newsletters.  Elizabeth oversees the content and organization of our website and maintains a database of our members including their birthdays as well as information about their youth and children.  Elizabeth assists the clerk and the pastor in keeping our church roles up to date and in keeping track of financial records to support our Volunteer Treasurer in tracking financial data.  Elizabeth also helps to support our media opportunities on Sunday mornings and publishes special mailings, brochures, and other church communications.  Elizabeth has a heart for Christ and all three of her children are active in our church ministry as well as her husband.  As a volunteer, she teaches Sunday School, hosts our women’s Bible Study, and supports all areas of children’s, youth, fellowship, and mission opportunities.  We are very blessed to have Elizabeth on staff and know that she works very hard in all her responsibilities in service to Christ and to help Cornerstone grow and be a light in the Jackson Community and Beyond.
